New Moon Ritual

Astrology is fascinating to me, but it’s also fairly complicated. I’d just as soon leave it up to the experts.

However, I’ve found that the moon cycles happen just often enough to take time to determine what direction your life is going. The next new moon begins Friday morning here in the Midwest.

The new moon is a great time to set intentions. This comes from when farmers noticed that the seeds that were planted during the new moon cycle grew better.

The new moon is a wonderful time to ask yourself what you want to bring in to your life. 

After working for so many years sitting at a desk, I want to foster a habit for physical recovery. I also want a meditation practice.

My intention for this month is to establish a daily practice that is yoga mixed with energy work and the foam roller. I follow this with meditation.

I begin my practice by doing the Donna Eden 5-Minute Energy Routine.

In the short time that I have been doing this, I have noticed that I feel much more energy all throughout the day. And it really does only take about 5 minutes!

For me, the hardest part of a yoga practice is to simply get on the mat.

That is why I start with the foam roller because it gets me on the mat. Using a foam roller is important because it moves your fascia. It’s important to keep the fascia supple as we age. Plus, it feels so good! There are lots of good videos on YouTube for foam rolling. Or you can get The Melt Method at your library.

For my yoga practice, I found an old copy of The Sivananda  Companion to Yoga (the one I have was published in 1983) that had a basic practice to follow. The chart is on page 66 of the following pdf:

I want my practice to be enjoyable, so I play music that I love and also burn incense to create a “My Body is My Temple” atmosphere.

By the time the next new moon comes, you can review how the intention worked and make any changes, or start a new intention.
